Marcella Hannon Shields, Ph.D is a native of New York City. She has practiced as a psychologist in a variety of clinical and counseling settings in the United States and Canada for more than thirty years. She is the cofounder, with her husband Eldon, of the Hannon-Shields Centre for Leadership and Peace in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where the work for this book began. The main purpose of the Centre is the promotion of compassion and peace for persons, communities and the earth. Out of this committment, the Children's Peace Theatre was born and continues to serve the community of the city of Toronto. Dr. Shields believes that global peace will only be possible when personal peace and a sense of hope for the future are restored, particularly for our children.

Over the past twenty-five years, Dr. Shields has primarily focused her practice on the healthy psychological development of women. Her practice has been strongly influenced by her study of Carl Jung and her work with Jungian analyst and author, Marion Woodman. Having lectured and led workshops in the United States, Canada, and New Zealand, Dr. Shields is now in private practice in the Pocono Mountain area of Pennsylvania, where she resides with her husband. They have three daughters and seven grandchildren.
